You finally convinced your family for delaying that marriage proposal for as much time as possible, though you couldn’t refuse engagement and you did a nice job of handling it in your style without losing the girl. You know your bachelor life is now both virtually and really over.
Your status on your social networking sites becomes engaged, and to be really frank, it isn’t that bad at all apart from the fact that you can’t behave like a bachelor. You always get something out of this, considering the perks, the engagement gifts and if you don’t care about those material gifts, you always get more of attention and love from the family. You even get time alone with her as you and she can go out under the pretext of shopping for wedding and meet out to know each other. Your friends know that you’ll lose your bachelorhood in a few months or a year, and thus, they start hanging out with you even more, and those times are fun when you go out, have fun, they tease you regarding your marriage prospects. Those few months are even better than the regular life of a bachelor you might be leading.
You need to make the engagement last as long as possible if you have that fear of becoming ‘eternally committed’ sooner than you thought you would be. The only thing why you probably don’t want to marry her is because you want to continue benefitting from this time between your engagement and marriage, where times are better than bachelor hood, and there’s no such deep promise, even though you have proposed to the girl.
A basic foremost suggestion would be not to back out of the engagement firstly, or playing tricks to prolong your engagement, for such things will only lead to a stage where she will dump you.
A way to prolong your engagement would be to not make a promise of an exact date for marriage. Just using the terms like “We will be husband and wife in near future”. The words ‘near’ and ‘future,’ though opposite in nature, when used together will help you.
Also, do something which will prolong is such as buy an apartment. Tell her that it’s for both of you, and the time spent in paperwork and other formalities will help you delay the marriage.
